Vintage Wallpaper Online

Is it really March 9 and over two months since my last post? I will have to rectify this immediately with a round-up of favourite vintage wallpaper websites.

First a quick click to Facebook page to ‘like’ the images I’ve posted tonight. My favourite (and used above as the featured image) is a vintage Liberty wallpaper called ‘Hera’. Beautiful peackock feathers in gold and teal. This would make an amazing lampshade. I’m selling it for Aus $10/meter.

Johnny Tapete – Original Vintage Wallpaper. An amazing website, I could spend hours browsing through all the images.

E W Moore – Fabulous Vintage Wallpaper. Another terrific website and a shop in London to boot. I’ll be at the shop this summer stocking up on wallpaper to bring back to Australia.

The Vintage Galaxy – Vintage Retro Wallpaper. Another website with truly beautiful wallpaper.

Fabulous Vintage Update
What have I been up to? Buying more glorious vintage fabric and editing the website in the hope that those friendly folk at Google put me at the top of the search pile. I’ve also been increasing my profile on Facebook and Pinterest and promoting the business with free fabric give-away days. I’ve got quite a following on Facebook now and it’s growing all the time. I’ve also had my first big article in our local lifestyle magazine, Northside, which you can read here.

Managing a website online shop, blog and keeping up with the social network is a lot of work but I really enjoy it. When my two boys (Oscar – 4 and Felix -2) are in bed, I find time to get on the internet to source more vintage fabric to add to the stash. I’ve completed four large wall art installations and I’m working on another for the very busy Cafe EightyAte on West Street, North Sydney, where we live. Late last year I sold half of our belongings on eBay to raise funds for a much needed photo-shoot. Claire at Frangipani Designs did a great job and the images can been seen on the website gallery. I have around 40 new items to add to the website after the flash sale, so I’ll be busy working on that for the rest of January. It’s been hectic and luckily I love what I do.

New Things
Lighting: I’m currently collecting some beautiful vintage retro lamp bases to pair with lampshades made from my vintage fabrics. The range will include a few Bitossi ceramic lamps and wooden lamps. Once the range is complete we’ll have another photoshoot. This time I might have to organise a garage sale raise the cash.

Belts: I’ve got a huge basket under my sewing table full of amazing Jacquard ribbons and hand carved Italian wooden buckles. The plan is to make a range of divine vintage inspired ‘cinch belts’ in time for next Christmas. At this rate it might be November 2014 before they are ready as I still need to wipe off the dust and resurrect the sewing machine which has been in hiding for the last 4 years.

Wall Art: In addition to fabric wall art I’d love to get Stone Inspired to make some handmade marble wall art using some of my vintage retro prints.

So ends the first newsletter. I’m hoping to send four a year so don’t worry, I won’t be bombarding you with emails!

Thanks for reading, until next time

Vintage Fabric Cushions

I’ve been looking on the internet at Australian designers and artisans selling vintage fabric cushions and I’m sharing my list of favourites.

First is the fantastic Funky Fabrix website.  In addition to a great range of ready made cushions they also have a custom made cushion service. You can choose from a huge range of fabulous vintage fabrics from their sister site 100% Vintage. My favourite vintage fabric cushion is this one.

I also love this one from the 100% Vintage website.

I’m pleased to say my website page, Fabulous Vintage vintage cushions, came nearly top in Google’s ranking. My hard work on S.E.O. has at last paid off. My favourite Fabulous Vintage cushions are of course Floppy Poppy and Rhea, both are vintage Sanderson fabrics.

Sally Campbell’s gorgeous website is also a favourite. Sally has some beautiful vintage fabric cushions made from vintage handmade textiles as well as amazing vintage throws. Sally sources her handmade textiles in India and they are made by artisans. All quilts, throws and cushions are either ‘hand-dyed’, ‘hand-stitched’, ‘hand-woven’ or ‘hand block-printed’. As a result they fade naturally and imperfections are part of their charm. Here is a selection from Sally’s website.

A quick look on Etsy and I find Moth Cushions, a range of one of a kind and limited edition, beautifully crafted cushions. Each cushion is created from vintage and retro fabrics, bedspreads, curtains, tea towels and tablecloths sourced from linen presses around the world.

So ends this week’s little blog, I do hope you enjoyed it.

Vintage Fabric Lampshades

I’ve been admiring the creativity with regards to lampshades as I browse the internet, here is a selection of favourites.

First of course are my own lampshades, expertly hand crafted for Fabulous Vintage by Shady Designs in Balmain, Sydney. All Fabulous Vintage lampshades are produced by Shady Design’s talented and dedicated specialist production team. Each lampshade is made to a high standard with quality testing performed prior to dispatch.  You can select vintage retro fabric from my vintage fabric gallery or contact Shady Designs to see their awesome modern fabric collection.

My favourites are ‘Floppy Poppy’, a vintage Sanderson fabric and Flamboyant Fuchsia. Both are pictured below. I am constantly scouring Vinnies and Salvos for vintage lamps and now have a huge collection of wooden and ceramic bases for sale. Please contact Fabulous Vintage if you are interested in seeing the lamp bases or vintage fabric range.

Vintage Fabric & Accessories Sale

At last I’ve created a Fabulous Vintage Facebook Sale Shop. I’ll be uploading lots of gorgeous things over the next few weeks as I need to sell some products to make way for more beautiful vintage fabric! Here is a sneak peek of what’s on offer. Bridget

Fabulous Vintage In Situ – Kirribilli, Sydney

A beautifully sunny and airy house in a cosy Kirribilli street is brightened with Fabulous Vintage cushions.

The top image vintage fabric poppy cushions are made with Sanderson 1970’s ‘Rhea’ fabric and they look amazing. The cushions below are made with Giltex marigold vintage fabric and are in reality for the master bedroom. They were custom-made to fit an existing pair of cushion inserts. There wasn’t quite enough light for a photo of the bedroom but they look fabulous on the sofa too.

A big thank you to ‘Gaynor The Trainer’ who lives in this super house with her husband Paul and their 2 lovely children, for decorating your sunny abode with Fabulous Vintage cushions!

Fabulous Vintage In Situ – North Sydney

Fabulous Vintage In Situ – North Sydney, Australia. March 2012

Two beautiful cushions and a cylinder lampshade make a great impact in our neighbour’s gorgeous Victorian terrace in North Sydney.

This fabric is a stunning floral screen print sourced from the UK called ‘Desdemona’ and designed by Grace Sullivan in the 1970s.

It looks brilliant against the matt black leather sofa.

Fabulous Vintage Fabric Bags

Today’s blog is a showcase for vintage fabric bags. There are so many gorgeous ones out there (including mine!) and they deserve to be written about.

So, my favourites from a recent search

Sally & Jane   Beautiful clutches from identical twins who love to be crafty.

Kara Smith makes one off handmade handbags that are individually named and come with fab extras such as pockets, vintage buttons and recycled buckles.

All patterns and designs are created by Kara herself.

Retrofied  Home of lovely things handcrafted from a mix of vintage, repurposed, remnant & contemporary materials.

I love the attention to detail on this lovely bag below such as the cute floral lining and fabric covered button. Nice!

Kiki’s Rewind Designs  has wonderful vintage fabric tool belts for women who garden, quilt or craft. These are also great for a market stall so I’ll just have to order one!

Kiki also has lovely clutch bags.

I’ve blogged about Retro Elephant before and I just love their retro clutch bags. Their products are made by hand from recycled textiles from the 60’s and 70’s, preferably in bright colors!

The result is unique and environmentally friendly products with a true retro touch.

Ella O Six has wonderful bags and every piece is made or customised with pride by Ella herself.  What I love most about Ella’s bags is her choice of vintage fabric, it’s right up my street.

Audrey’s Cat has gorgeous slouchy boho shoulder bags, this one featured below is my favourite.
Last (and certainly not least!) are my own Fabulous Vintage products.
Rare vintage fabric is carefully sourced and up-cycled into fabulous bags which are sold on Madeit and Blue Caravan ethical design market.

Gorgeous hey!
Until next time,
Bridget
